Hammer attack at Brighton hairdresser's

A 22-year-old member of staff has been treated in hospital for head injuries after being attacked with a hammer at a hair salon in Brighton.

Two men, believed to have been known to the victim, entered Hair Razors in Coombe Road just before 0900 BST, Sussex Police said.

The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and released after treatment.

The attackers ran off in the direction of Riley Road after the assault.

Weapon recovered

"This was a frightening attack in broad daylight and the victim is very lucky not to have received more serious injuries," said Insp David Robinson.

He said a weapon was recovered, but not the hammer used in the attack.

The owner of the salon witnessed part of the incident but no customers were there at the time.

The attackers are described as dark skinned. One had dark hair, bushy eyebrows and facial hair and the other had blond hair and green eyes.

One was wearing a blue shirt and black trousers.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
