Roof boss fined over worker death in Bognor Regis

The managing director of a maintenance company has been fined £120,000 after the death of a worker in West Sussex.

Shane Offer, 21, of Lancing, fell through a skylight at Rosebys in Bognor Regis in June 2009.

Richard James, 37, of Southern Property Maintenance had been convicted of breaching his duty to an employee.

He was also given a suspended six-month jail term at Lewes Crown Court and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was found guilty on 5 April by a jury, which cleared him of a charge of manslaughter by gross negligence.

Mr Offer was flown to the Royal London Hospital in east London, but died from his injuries.
