Pickled person auditions held in Brighton

A 21-year-old woman who can squeeze into a 2ft (61cm) tall bottle has been chosen as the "pickled person" to appear during the Brighton Festival.

Sophie Cairns, from Brighton, was among scores of people who auditioned for the part after it was advertised at job centres in the city.

Applicants needed to be flexible and able to fit into the bottle, which is 18in (46cm) in diameter.

Ms Cairns will feature in Circus of Horrors shows in Brighton until 22 May.

She will earn £200 for seven hours work a week.

Ms Cairns will replace the current "pickled person", law student Iona Luvsandorj, who is unavailable because she is sitting exams.

Auditions were held inside the bottle at the Sabai Pavilion in Grand Parade, Brighton.
