Burgess Hill man attacked with bleach

A man had bleach thrown into his eyes as he walked home in Sussex.

The 61-year-old victim suffered burns to his eyes and face in St John's Park, Burgess Hill, at about 2100 BST on Monday, Sussex Police said.

He was crossing the park when a man approached him and threw the liquid into his face.

The victim described the suspect as white, 5ft 8in (1.73m), of medium build, wearing dark trousers and a dark hooded top with the hood up.

Det Con Mike George, from Sussex Police, said: "The victim is still in considerable pain and is hoping there is no permanent damage to his vision."

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and then transferred to the eye hospital for treatment.
