Former Sussex police sergeant faces child porn charges

A former Sussex Police officer has been charged with making and distributing thousands of indecent images of children.

Philip Savidge, 26, from Burgess Hill, was an acting sergeant with Sussex Police but resigned on the day he was arrested on September 20 last year.

A force spokeswoman said Mr Savidge faced 42 charges relating to the making and distribution of 54,323 images.

It is alleged the haul included 1,681 prohibited and extreme images.

He is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates on 21 June.

His charge follows an investigation into file-sharing programmes by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and the Sussex Paedophile Online Investigation Team.
