Man, 66, held over death of wife Linda Allen in Sussex

Police investigating the suspected murder of a woman at her West Sussex home have said there was evidence of blood throughout the property.

The body of Linda Allen, 64, was found at a six-bedroom house in Nyetimber Lane, West Chiltington, on Thursday.

Her husband, believed to be Bill Allen, 66, is in Worthing Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder after calling the emergency services at 1440 BST.

'Quiet and unassuming'

Sussex Police found Mr Allen in the hallway of the property with knife wounds to his legs.

The body of Mrs Allen was found lying in a bed upstairs. Sussex Police said there was evidence of blood throughout the property.

A force spokeswoman said the victim had not been formally identified but is believed to be Mrs Allen. The couple lived alone.

The cause of death has not been established and a post mortem is due to be carried out on Saturday.

The couple have been described by neighbours as "quiet and unassuming" and are believed to have only recently moved into the property.

Det Insp Trevor Bowles of Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch said: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this tragic incident."
