Police investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Brighton have issued CCTV footage of a man they believe may hold vital information.

The footage shows the man walking along St James Street about 25 minutes before the assault on the 26-year-old woman in Park Street on 22 June.

Det Insp Mick Jones, of Sussex Police, said the man could be a key witness.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and released on bail pending inquiries.

The woman was assaulted shortly before 0300 BST.

Det Insp Jones said police were also still appealing for a man who walked past the victim along Edward Street near the junction with Upper Rock Gardens at about 0240 BST.

"This male may have seen the offender following the victim," he said.
