Worthing pensioner found covered in blood

A 70-year-old woman was found by passers-by in a confused state and covered in blood after she was attacked.

She had been hit in the face and her handbag stolen as she walked home in Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, at about 0930 BST on Monday, 20 June.

The victim suffered a broken arm and needed stitches around her eye.

The victim does not want to be named, and police want anyone who witnessed the attack to contact them.

The pensioner was seen leaving the The Blue Ocean where she had a cup of tea, walked north up South Street carrying shopping and her handbag.

She walked along Warwick Street and north up the High Street, then turned into Lyndhurst Road at about 0930 BST.

Det Con Debbie Birch said: "This was an attack on a vulnerable, elderly woman. She suffered some nasty injuries and she was so shocked she could not remember much of her ordeal."
