Men held hostage in Ockham by jewellery thieves

Two men were held hostage and robbed at a Surrey house by thieves who then took one of the victims to a jeweller's store which they tried to raid.

Surrey Police said four masked men had broken into the property in Ockham and threatened the men inside on Monday.

After they stole a large amount of jewellery they held the men overnight and then took one of them to a store in Cobham at about 0830 BST on Tuesday.

Detectives said they fled the store in High Street empty-handed.

'Traumatic experience'

Det Ch Insp Dave Brookes, of Surrey Police, added: "This was a very serious and concerning incident where two men have been threatened and held at an address overnight before an attempted robbery at the jewellers in Cobham.

"Fortunately neither of the victims were injured during the incident but this was obviously a very traumatic experience for them to be put through and we are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.

"This was clearly a planned and organised offence where the suspects were prepared to go to great lengths to get what they wanted and such appalling behaviour will not be tolerated by Surrey Police.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen the black Mercedes vehicle in the Old Bear pub car park or elsewhere in Cobham yesterday morning to contact police."
