The family of a graduate who died after falling off a boat while sailing in West Sussex has said he had been enjoying the "perfect day".

Joel Eager, 21, suffered a serious head injury after he fell from the rigid inflatable boat in Chichester Harbour on 1 July.

Mr Eager, who had just graduated from Exeter University, was taken to King's Hospital in London but later died.

In a statement, his family said they were devastated.

'Dearly loved'

They said: "He was an extremely gifted and intelligent young man in the prime of life. Our consolation is that he was enjoying the perfect day in the company of close friends.

"He was poised to embrace a brilliant future, in every aspect of his full life. He was dearly loved by every one of us and he did not suffer at all."

Sussex Police said it was a "very tragic accident" and the matter had been passed to the coroner.
