A man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a crash in Sussex.

Sussex Police said the man was accused in relation to a crash involving an East Sussex Highways vehicle and a Mini near Herstmonceux in December 2010.

The driver of the Mini, Daniel Martin, 31, of Horam, died as a result of the injuries caused in the collision.

Mr Martin was also involved in a second accident when the ambulance he was in crashed in Ninfield.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said Sussex Police should investigate the second crash.

The ambulance Mr Martin was in was being driven by a roads policing officer.

A report was later passed to the Kent Crown Prosecution Service and it was decided there should be no criminal proceedings against anyone involved in the second collision.

Sussex Police said the officer involved was taken off driving duties for a period but had since returned to full driving duties.
