Plan to revamp Burgess Hill shopping district

Leading retailers have shown an interest in Burgess Hill as part of a revamp of its shopping district, developers have said.

New River, the leaseholder of the Martlets Shopping Centre, has been in talks with Mid Sussex District Council to improve the town.

Unveiling its masterplan at a public meeting, New River said it was in talks with several major retailers.

It also plans to improve parking and revamp Martlets Hall and the library.

Councillor Gary Marsh, the cabinet member for regeneration at the Conservative-controlled council, said it was an "exciting time".

"We have been encouraging investors to come forward with schemes and this one from New River is really grabbing people's attention," he said.
