Arsonists target Scope's school building in Five Oaks

Arsonists have set fire to a disused building on the site of a West Sussex school run by a disability charity.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to Ingfield Manor School in Five Oaks shortly after 05:00 BST.

The charity, Scope, said the property was previously used to house staff but was currently disused. A spokesman said it was not near other school buildings.

Sussex Police said the fire was started deliberately and appealed for witnesses.

'Neighbours fearful'

Pc Andrew Li said: "Whilst this building was disused, trees and bushes surrounding the property could easily have caught alight and spread the fire.

"Neighbours were fearful that their own property would catch fire and of the falling debris."

Mr Li said scrap metal thieves had recently broken into the building and stole a boiler.
