Airbourne helicopter in emergency landing

A helicopter has been forced to make an emergency landing in East Sussex after being struck by a bird.

Sussex Police said the helicopter, believed to be connected to the Airbourne Eastbourne airshow, landed near Beachy Head.

Emergency services attended the scene, but initial indications were that the aircraft landed safely and all on board were safe.

The pilot sent out a Mayday message about 17:30 BST.

The four-day airshow on Eastbourne seafront got under way on Thursday.

The Breitling Wingwalkers, the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight were among the displays on Friday.

An estimated 500,000 attended the airshow in 2010.
