Cause of Billingshurst fuel depot fire still a mystery

Extensive damage has so far prevented investigators from discovering the cause of a fire at a fuel depot near Billingshurst, West Sussex.

Firefighters were called to Four Seasons Fuel Limited at Coneyhurst just before 22:00 BST on Friday and a 200m cordon was established.

About 30 people who were evacuated from their homes on the night have been allowed to return.

No one was injured during the fire, which has been extinguished.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Due to the extensive amount of damage we're not able to ascertain the exact cause of the fire so far.

"Investigators were at the scene over the weekend and residents have been allowed back into their homes."

Detective Inspector Martyn Faint, of West Sussex CID, said: "The cause of this fire is still unknown and we would like to appeal for information from members of the public who might be able to assist in our investigation to discover how the blaze began."
