East Sussex road crashes prompt police appeal

A pedestrian has died and another has been seriously injured in two separate road accidents in East Sussex.

Sussex Police said a man in his 40s was hit by a Toyota Avensis in Battle Road, St Leonards, at 05:40 BST.

He was taken to the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards but died a short time after arriving.

In Brighton, a man was seriously injured when he was struck by a red car in a hit-and-run crash in Kings Road at 04:20 BST.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw the car, possibly a Peugeot, travelling westbound on the A259.
