Cable drums stolen from Horsham rail depot in Sussex

Thieves have stolen six drums of cable from a rail depot in West Sussex.

British Transport Police said a £1,000 reward had been made available for information about the thefts from the Horsham depot.

Two drums were stolen on Monday, while a further four drums were taken just over 24 hours later in a light-coloured transit van.

Det Con Vanessa Cottington said cable theft had become a "major problem on the rail system".

Referring to the thieves, she said: "What they don't realise is just how little they make.

"Is it worth risking your life accessing the rail line or prohibited areas for £50 in your pocket?"
