Biker dies going to friend's aid in Hailsham

A 71-year-old man died after going to the aid of a friend who had skidded off his motorcycle.

Kenneth Jarrett and a 62-year-old man were riding their bikes in Carters Corner, East Sussex, when they stopped sharply to avoid a stationary lorry.

Sussex Police said Mr Jarrett, of Mill Road, Hailsham, managed to stop but the other biker skidded and came of his Triumph, suffering minor injuries.

Mr Jarrett went to see if he was okay but collapsed and could not be revived.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination is due to take place later this week.

The other biker, who is from Eastbourne, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Sussex Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact officers.
