Woman in 80s saved from Haywards Heath flat fire

A woman in her 80s has been taken to hospital after being rescued from a fire at her flat in West Sussex.

Three fire crews were sent to the flats in Barnard Gate, Haywards Heath, at 06:18 BST on Friday after an upstairs neighbour raised the alarm.

Firefighters who forced entry into the flat found the woman unconscious on the settee and carried her outside where she was given oxygen.

Paramedics took her to hospital after treating her for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but it is believed it started accidentally in the kitchen.
