Man stabbed during robbery in Brighton

A woman has been arrested after a shop assistant was stabbed during a robbery in Brighton.

The 23-year-old man suffered a superficial wound to the chest during the raid at Happy Shopper in Upper Bevendean Avenue on Tuesday.

Sussex Police said a man, who stabbed the assistant and stole cash, fled the shop with a woman who entered the store while the robbery was taking place.

Officers arrested a woman on suspicion of robbery on Wednesday.

She is expected to be questioned later.

'House-to-house inquiries'

The victim was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton following the incident.

Det Con Richard Mackenzie said: "Officers were quick to respond to emergency calls and were able to offer support to the victim.

"Police are currently viewing CCTV, conducting house-to-house inquiries and forensic examinations of the scene.

"We are still in the early stages of the investigation and are still to obtain a full statement from the victim."

The man with the knife was described as black, 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build and with a black eye.

The woman was said to be 5ft 6in tall, of medium build, with freckles and red hair which was tied back in a ponytail.
