Van crash shuts M23 southbound carriageway at Crawley

The M23 was partially closed for three hours after a van overturned and was then collided with a crane.

Sussex Police said the vehicle crashed on the southbound carriageway near junction 10 at Crawley at about 05:40 BST on Thursday.

The occupants were taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill with "serious but non-life threatening head injuries".

Officers said there were tailbacks for about five miles at the height of the traffic delays.

All three lines of the southbound carriageway were reopened at about 08:55 BST.
