A Sussex man who was brought back from Thailand to face court has pleaded guilty to a string of fraud and theft charges.

Paul Ridden, 58, of Mallard Close, Eastbourne admitted six counts of fraud by false representation and three of theft.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining property by deception.

Eastbourne magistrates remanded him in custody to await sentencing at Lewes Crown Court at a date yet to be set.

A charge of failing to surrender to bail was dropped.

Sussex Police said the offences were carried out in Ridden's local area.

The force made appeals to trace him after he failed to answer bail in April.

Authorities in Thailand arrested him in September on suspicion of visa offences and he was detained after arriving at Heathrow Airport earlier this month.
