Hailsham hit-and-run crash: Man seriously hurt

A man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident in East Sussex.

The 22-year-old was crossing Greenwich Road in Hailsham when he was hit by the car at about 18:25 GMT on Sunday.

The impact forced the man to hit a parked car before falling on the ground. Sussex Police said it was "appalling" the driver did not stop.

The man is in a serious but stable condition at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Sgt Andy Smith said: "Most road traffic collisions are traumatic for those involved but when a driver fails to stop at a scene and help the injured person, it is all the more appalling.

"We are hoping to establish the type of vehicle that struck the man but in the meantime, we would like the driver of a blue Escort van that was seen in the area at the time of the incident, to please get in touch."
