Sussex Police using Twitter to highlight domestic abuse

Incidents of domestic abuse responded to by police in Brighton and Hove are to be put on the social networking site Twitter for the next 16 days.

The move is in support of International Day to End Violence Against Women and the days of action leading up to Human Rights Day on 10 December.

Sussex Police said the Brighton and Hove anti-victimisation unit would also "tweet" work undertaken by the team.

It said it hoped that people affected would seek help sooner as a result.

Det Insp Miles Ockwell said: "In many instances women will experience domestic abuse many times before seeking help and we want to change this."
