Two arrested after Crawley gun alert

A man and a woman have been arrested after police received reports a man with a gun was threatening a 16-year-old boy in West Sussex.

Armed officers were sent to Peterborough Road, Crawley, just before 21:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The two people were arrested at an address in nearby Thatcher Close. No shots were fired.

Det Sgt Alex Lowe, of Sussex Police, said: "It is believed that the victims and offenders are known to each other."

No firearm recovered

Earlier in the evening, police were called following reports suggesting that a group of 25 young people were attempting to break into a house in Peterborough Road.

Mr Lowe said: "Officers are still working to establish the exact sequence of events last night and at this stage no firearm has been recovered."

Sussex Police said a 25-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting a firearms offence.

The man is also being held on suspicion of actual bodily harm.
