Brighton council leader Bill Randall to become mayor

The leader of Brighton and Hove City Council will step down in April to become the city's mayor.

Bill Randall was the UK's first Green Party leader of a local authority when the Greens were elected to be a minority administration in May.

He put himself forward as the mayoral candidate at the full council meeting on Thursday.

Mr Randall will have to resign from his post as council leader when he becomes mayor in April.
