Tory councillor sent travellers to Green Party ward

A Conservative councillor has admitted sending a group of travellers to a site in a Green Party ward, after they stopped near her home.

Brighton and Hove councillor Dawn Barnett was found guilty of breaking the members' code of conduct. No sanction was imposed at the hearing.

She admitted she had given travellers written directions to another site.

She said: "By coincidence, this is in a Green ward, but that's not why I suggested it."

A council spokesman said Ms Barnett could have been suspended for six months, but her previous good behaviour had been taken into account.

Ms Barnett said that she had given the travellers directions to a site in Queens Park in Kempton after they had stopped in Greenleas Park near where she lives.

She said that the Queens Park site was much bigger and more suitable.
