Sussex Police probe follows inappropriate behaviour claim

Sussex Police has started an investigation into three officers and a member of police staff following allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

The four, who work in the central investigative crime unit, were originally suspended but have now returned to duty.

Sussex Police said the professional standards department was carrying out the investigation.

The force said it took "allegations of this nature very seriously".

A spokesman for Sussex Police added: "Three police officers and a member of the police staff were temporarily suspended and have now been returned to duty temporarily elsewhere in the force while the investigation continues.

"Sussex police takes allegations of this nature very seriously and suspensions were required during the initial stages of the investigation.

"Suspension is a neutral act, that should not be taken to presume wrongdoing. Similarly, it must be stressed that the investigation has not finished so reinstatement should not be taken to presume an outcome.

"A thorough investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be given to protect its integrity."
