Man charged over Crawley stabbing attack

A 39-year-old man has been charged after another man was stabbed in the throat in Crawley.

Sussex Police said Tommy Smith, of Barley Close, Crawley, is due before Mid Sussex Magistrates' Court later charged with wounding with intent.

The victim was attacked from behind as he walked past the Free Church in Three Bridges Road, at about 20:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Five other men from Crawley have been released on bail until 6 February.

The 41-year-old victim, of no fixed address, was taken to East Surrey Hospital with a neck wound.

Police said he remained in hospital in a stable condition.
