A 65-year-old man who died after being assaulted in his Brighton flat may have known his attackers, police believe.

Christopher McLean, known as "Mac", opened the door to two men who then barged into the flat in Caledonian Crescent on Friday evening.

His partner called an ambulance two hours later but he died shortly after.

Det Ch Insp Nick May said police were looking for two white men who carried out the assault.

'Greatly missed'

A fight broke out in the flat between 20:00 and 20:30 GMT but no weapons were used.

In a statement, Mr McLean 's partner, Annie Stranger, said: "I was with Mac for 25 years.

"He was a very loyal and loving partner who was a great dad to his four sons and to my son.

"He will be greatly missed by me, our family, our friends and all the people he met along the way."
