Man attacked during West Sussex football match

A 29-year-old man has had facial surgery after being assaulted during a Sunday league football match in West Sussex.

The victim, from Havant in Hampshire, was playing in a game at the Bourne Community College in Southbourne.

Police believe he was attacked by a 21-year-old man from Bognor Regis who was playing for the opposing team.

The victim was taken to hospital with a fractured jaw. No arrests have been made.

A police spokeswoman said: "This was a very nasty attack and was witnessed by other footballers and spectators.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has information that could help police with their inquiries."
