Sussex Police alert over Crawley bogus bank callers

Fraudsters have managed to get the bank cards of three elderly women in Crawley and withdraw funds from their accounts, Sussex Police have said.

The women had received phone calls from people claiming to be from their bank.

The callers already had information about each victim, but managed to gain more details and convince them their cards had been compromised.

All three gave their cards to a man who they thought was a courier. Cash was later withdrawn at cash machines.

The three women were targeted on Friday and Saturday. Two of them were in their 80s and the age of the third woman is unknown.

Police said the victims lost several hundred pounds.

Officers have warned people in the West Sussex town to be aware of the fraud.
