Brighton seafront railings fall man 'critical'

A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition after falling 30ft (9m) from railings on Brighton seafront.

Sussex Police said the man, who is from Sidcup, south east London, climbed over the railings in Kings Road after a night out with friends.

He was urged to climb back to safety by a friend. Two police officers on patrol in Lower Esplanade also tried to help the man on Saturday.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with multiple fractures.

Sussex Police said he remained in a critical condition.

The force said the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) had been informed as police officers were present when the man fell.

A spokesman added: "It is not clear exactly why he fell but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"We would like to hear from anyone else who was in that area late on Saturday night and who saw anything of this incident or what led up to it."
