Children's A&E ward in Brighton opens

An accident and emergency ward for children has opened in Brighton.

Health chiefs say they want to protect youngsters from the "sights and sounds" of an adult A&E department.

The ward, which is part of the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, includes a play area and six-bed observation unit.

Duncan Selbie, the chief executive of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals, said about 50 children a day visit A&E.
