The weekend's heavy snowfall and icy conditions led to the closure or partial closure of nearly 40 schools across East Sussex on Monday.

Motorists have been advised to drive with extreme care due to freezing fog and black ice on untreated roads.

Both Southeastern and Southern rail ran a normal timetable, although there have been some minor disruptions.

Gatwick Airport was open but urged passengers to check the status of their flight before setting out.

It also warned that travel across the UK and some parts of Europe was being affected by the adverse weather.

On Sunday, all scheduled flights departed and arrived without any cancellations.

Arriva said most of its bus routes were running normally although some services on country roads were being assessed.
