Man accused over Gatwick-bound plane door dies

The case against a man charged with endangering the safety of a Gatwick Airport-bound plane has closed following the death of the defendant.

Thomas Lewis Hughes, 56, was accused of trying to open an exit door on the flight between Kenya and London Gatwick Airport, West Sussex, in May 2010.

A death certificate for Mr Hughes, of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, was shown to Lewes Crown Court on Friday.

The incident is alleged to have happened on a flight from Mombassa.
