A Hastings publican has been jailed for a prolonged attack on a woman in the lounge of a pub he managed.

Toby Goater, 36, subjected his 39-year-old victim to an assault lasting several hours in the Imperial in Queens Road.

Goater admitted causing actual bodily harm, perverting the course of justice and false imprisonment in December last year.

He was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Hove Crown Court.

In a statement issued through Sussex Police, his victim said: "I don't know if I will ever be able to get over what has happened to me.

"I bear both the physical and mental scars from my ordeal."
