Pregnant woman hurt in Eastbourne hit-and-run

A hit-and-run driver is being sought by police after a crash in Eastbourne which led to an eight-months pregnant woman being taken to hospital.

Sussex Police said the 31-year-old woman had parked her BMW in Silverdale Road on Monday night and opened the back door to get her small child out.

Another car, possibly a Vauxhall, hit the door, which in turn hit the woman. The driver left without stopping.

The woman was taken to Eastbourne hospital and was later discharged.

Sgt Dave Morgan said the car, described as silver with square brake lights, lost a wing mirror at the scene, and appealed for information about the vehicle.

Police urged a man who was out walking his dog and helped the woman to contact them urgently. Officers have also appealed directly to the driver to come forward.
