Steyning shop fire could be village arsonist say Sussex Police

Police are investigating a fire in a Sussex village which could be linked to a series of deliberate arson attacks.

Firefighters were called to the rear of a shop in the High Street in Steyning village at about 05:45 GMT.

Two vehicles were damaged and police believe they were set on fire deliberately.

"We are considering whether this is linked to other recent fires in Steyning or whether it is a targeted incident," Det Sgt Chris Leech said.

"Extra uniformed police officers will be patrolling the village at all hours to speak to residents and monitor any further suspicious activity."

Fires have been started in porches, bins, skips and sheds in Steyning in recent weeks.
