St Mary Magdalene Primary School expansion plans progress

A primary school in Bexhill, East Sussex, is set to expand under plans put forward by the county council.

The authority wants to increase the number of places at St Mary Magdalene Catholic school from 210 to 315.

It said while a consultation into the proposal had received a mixed response, expansion was necessary.

Councillor Nick Bennett said: "We have to do this because our projections show we will have a shortfall of school places in the town in the future."

He added: "I want to be very clear, however, that the proposals are about providing extra classes, not enlarging classes."

The Conservative-controlled council said it would hold further consultation before making a final decision.
