Man seriously hurt in attack in Portslade car park

A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after he was attacked in a car park on the outskirts of Brighton.

The 35-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket and cuts and bruises in the assault, in Station Road, Portslade, early on Wednesday.

Police were alerted by neighbours who heard screaming, and found two men kicking and punching their victim's head as he lay on the ground.

Two men, from Southwick and Newhaven, are being questioned by Sussex police.

The victim, who police say is from the area, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he is said to be in a stable condition.

A police spokesman said: "We don't believe they were known to each other but we believe there was some form of interaction between the three of them before the attack."
