Eastbourne man found with head injuries dies

A man found lying on the ground with head injuries outside public toilets in Eastbourne on Saturday evening has died, Sussex Police have said.

The 46-year-old local man, who was found conscious in Brassey Avenue near Hampden Park station, deteriorated in hospital and died on Sunday evening.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday. His next of kin have been informed.

A 48-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail.

Police said the injured man was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital by ambulance, but his condition worsened and he was transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath.

"Tragically, his condition deteriorated yet further and he died at 6.15pm on Sunday," Sussex Police said in a statement.

Det Insp Ian Williams said: "We have yet to establish exactly what happened and the death is as yet unexplained.

"It is believed that something happened between the two men but exactly what is unclear."

He is appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen what happened before police arrived.
