Hastings man found unconscious and seriously injured

A man is in an induced coma in hospital after he was found unconscious with serious injuries to his head and face.

Sussex Police said he was found by a passer-by lying near the adventure park complex in Hastings on the A259 seafront road at about 06:30 GMT.

Officers named him as George Gardiner, who is in his late 20s and from the Hastings area.

They said he was believed to have been drinking in the town on Saturday night, but his movements were unclear.

Det Insp Mark O'Brien said: "It is not clear at this stage how Mr Gardiner received his injuries and therefore I would like to appeal to anyone who has information, no matter how relevant they think it is, to please come forward as soon as possible."

Mr Gardiner is being treated at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
