Sussex thieves 'risking lives' to steal copper cable

Electricity substations in Mid-Sussex have been targeted by thieves risking their lives to steal copper cable, police have said.

There were 13 reports over three days last week and nearly 30 in total this year in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath.

All the thefts happened overnight and were discovered by workmen called out to deal with faults.

Officers said the cost of repairs to each substation was about £800.
