A fire at a block of flats from which four people had to be rescued began in a bag attached to a wheelchair in the communal hallway.

Sussex Police and fire investigation officers originally believed the fire, in South Terrace, Littlehampton, might have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the fire just after 04:00 BST on Thursday.

Police said they were no longer treating the blaze as suspected arson.
