Teenager injured in Crawley hammer attack

A 14-year-old boy is in hospital with injuries to his face after being attacked with a hammer in West Sussex.

Police and paramedics were called to Broadfield, Crawley about 21:25 BST on Wednesday after reports of a fight between the boy, a man and a woman.

The boy's face was bleeding and he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he is stable.

A 38-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Sussex Police said they were arrested a short time after the assault in Broadfield Barton.

Det Sgt Glenn Willcocks appealed to anyone who saw the incident who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

"This appears to have been a targeted attack and we are investigating the circumstances that led up to it," he said.
