Woman raped in East Grinstead cemetery

A woman in her 20s has been raped while walking home though a cemetery in West Sussex.

She was on a footpath in Mount Noddy cemetery in East Grinstead, between Moat Road and Badgers Way, when she was attacked at about 02:00 BST.

Two passers-by intervened and were threatened by the rapist, who then ran off, Sussex Police said.

The man has been described as white, in his early 20s and was wearing a grey-and-white hooded top.

Police said the victim was treated for superficial physical injuries and was receiving support from specially-trained detectives and medical experts.

Any witnesses are asked to contact police.
