Man attacked by gang on Hastings Pirate Day

A man attending the annual Pirate Day celebrations in Hastings is being treated for a broken jaw and back fracture after he was assaulted.

The 22-year-old was attacked at the top of the "100" steps between the bottom of the West Hill cliffs leading down to the amusement arcades in George Street.

He was with a friend at the time of the assault just after 21:00 BST on Sunday.

Sussex Police said it believed he was attacked by five people, who threw him down the steps, kicked and punched him.
