A 51-year-old woman who died in what was thought to have been an explosion at a flat in West Sussex has been named by police.

Maria Woodhead, was treated by paramedics following the blaze at Banks Road, Crawley, on New Year's Eve but pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said investigators had established there was a small fire in a room and not a blast as first thought.

Ms Woodhead's death is not being treated as suspicious

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the exact cause of her death had not yet been established but the matter had been referred to the coroner and investigations were continuing.
