Man arrested after rape in Burgess Hill woods

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked following a night out in West Sussex.

The victim, in her 40s, was waiting for a taxi in The Martlets, Burgess Hill, on Saturday at 02:00 GMT when a man offered to walk her home.

Sussex Police said when they both got to Leylands Road he raped her in woods.

A force spokesman said a 21-year-old man from Burgess Hill had handed himself into police and was questioned. He was released on bail until 31 March.
